Weekly Wins 60: How to Create Calm Moments in Busy Days
Jan 20, 2025
Parenting is busy, chaotic, and sometimes overwhelming—especially for neurodiverse families. But within the busyness of life, there’s an opportunity to create small moments of calm. These moments aren’t about stopping the world or forcing stillness; they’re about being present and intentional, even for a few minutes.
Why Calm Matters for Neurodiverse Families:
I used to resist "doing" calm moments because there's always "more to do" but the more I insisted with myself the easier it got and the value they brought was long lasting and so valuable! For neurodiverse individuals, calm isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. It helps regulate emotions, reduce sensory overload, and build resilience. For parents, creating these moments of calm can also provide a much-needed pause to recharge and refocus.
What Does Calm Look Like?
Calm might look different for every family. It could be sitting quietly with a child in a sensory-friendly corner, taking a mindful walk together, or simply pausing to take a few deep breaths before starting the day. The key is finding what works for you and your family and incorporating it into your daily rhythm.
Why It’s Worth Prioritising:
Even small moments of calm can have a big impact on your day. They create a sense of grounding and connection that can ripple out into other areas of life. I honestly feel this when I spend the time to find the calm moments, or should I say “make” space for these calm moments. For children, these moments teach them how to self-regulate and find peace in a chaotic world.
Creating calm moments doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. It’s about finding what works for your family and making space for it in your day. What’s one small way you can create calm this week?
